Partygoers at an intimate backyard party in Los Angeles nearly dropped their plates after discovering that the cook serving them coleslaw was rock royalty.
Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl was seen happily barbecuing and mingling with guests during an unexpected appearance at a friend’s backyard show, according to social media videos posted last week.
“It was so much fun and Dave was incredibly kind,” one attendee told The Sun. “He even laughed and interrupted us while we were buying food. It was truly one of the most surreal things that ever happened to me.”
The party, held at the home of a friend known for hosting small backyard concerts, had been in the works for years.
“(My friend) has been trying to make this happen for several years,” Guest said. “Everything has fallen into place over the last few weeks.”
Footage of the party, which has been viewed 586,000 times on TikTok, showed the 17-time Grammy Award winner helping hand out barbecue plates to bowls to party-goers.
“It was very good,” the guest raved.
Fans may be surprised, but Grohl’s love of barbecue is as legendary as his music.
The rocker, whose friends include icons like Paul McCartney and Jimmy Page, has long been obsessed with grilling and smoking meat.
He has made large quantities of meals for charities, including feeding people at the Hope the Mission shelter in Los Angeles and feeding firefighters fighting wildfires in California.
Grohl said his barbecue obsession dates back to the early ’90s, when Nirvana first started making serious money. He bought a beach house in North Carolina and quickly fell in love with pulled pork.
“I would buy a pint and eat it until it was gone,” he told Bon Appetit in 2019.
“I realized, oh, this is barbecue. So simple, yet sublime and complex.”
The Backyard appearance also comes after a tumultuous year for the rocker’s personal life.
In 2024, Grohl shocked fans by admitting that he had fathered a child with another woman outside of his marriage to Jordyn Blum. It was later revealed by the Post that the child’s mother was rock and roll fan Jennifer Young.
Despite the scandal, Grohl and Blum, who have three daughters, decided to patch things up and restart their marriage.
Meanwhile, the frontman is back doing what he does best: playing loud and living big.
Foo Fighters are currently touring the world on their Take Cover Tour, which begins in January and is scheduled to run until early 2027.
But what if you’re lucky?
Maybe a rock legend will hand you a plate of barbecue and coleslaw at the grill.
