Ed Begley Jr., Anne Archer, Mamie Gummer and Ana Ortiz will star on NBC’s “Brilliant Minds” when the show returns for the final six episodes of Season 2 in May. “Brilliant Minds” was removed from the schedule in February, before the Winter Olympics, and there was no firm date set for its return.
NBC has not yet made a final decision on the fate of “Brilliant Minds” beyond its second season, which returns on Wednesday, May 27 at 8 p.m. ET. The show will remain in that slot until the final six segments of the season.
As part of the news, NBC announced three more guest stars. Begley Jr. will play Duke in episode 220. The character descriptions are as follows: “Once the patriarch of the family, Duke struggles to hold on to the memories that defined him. But as they grow more distant, Wolf becomes determined to help make amends with his estranged son before it’s too late.”
Also in the episode, Archer plays Bonnie, described as a “kind-hearted matriarch who must find a way to reconcile the future she dreams of with the reality she faces.”
Meanwhile, in episode 217, Gummer will play “Regan, a psychotic patient whose tragic episode has made her estranged from everyone at Hudson Oaks except Wolfe. Wolfe, who takes an intense interest in Regan, realizes there may be more to her case than meets the eye.”
And in episode 218, Ortiz plays Alyssa Rivera. “Freshly released from prison, Alyssa is determined to get back to her old life, no matter the cost.”
Begley’s recent television credits include “Better Call Saul,” “Young Sheldon,” “Bless This Female,” “Arrested Development,” “Portlandia,” “Modern Family,” and “Six Feet Under,” and his film roles include “A Mighty Wind,” “Best in Show,” and “For Your Convention.”
Archer currently appears in “The Dropout,” “Paper Empire,” and “The L Word.” In film, he was nominated for a BAFTA and a Golden Globe Award for “Fatal Attraction.”
Gummer’s television credits include “We Were Liars,” “DMZ,” “True Detective,” “The Collection,” “Emily Owens, MD,” “The Good Wife,” “Manhattan,” “Off the Map,” “John Adams” and “The Big C.” Ortiz’s credits include “Goosebumps,” “Love, Victor,” “Whiskey Cavalier,” “Dangerous Maid” and “Ugly Betty.”
Zachary Quinto stars in “A Brilliant Mind,” which was inspired by author and neurologist Oliver Sacks. He plays Dr. Wolfe, a surgeon at Bronx General University who unravels medical mysteries of the mind.

Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Lee London Redman, Lee Toland Krieger, DeMane Davis, Jasmine Rath, Henrik Bastin, Jonathan Cavendish, Andy Serkis and Shefali Malhotra will also executive produce the series, which is produced by Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television.
