“Euphoria” composer Labyrinth is distancing himself from the HBO series, which will premiere its long-awaited third season on April 12.
On Thursday night, the Emmy-winning and Grammy-nominated musician wrote in a cryptic Instagram post: “I’m done with this industry. Fuck Columbia. Fuck ‘Euphoria.'” It came out. Thank you and good night X. ”
Labyrinth are currently signed to Columbia Records and released their latest album, Cosmic Opera Act 1, in January. He has been providing the music for Sam Levinson’s hit teen drama, which launched the careers of Zendaya, Sidney Sweeney, and Jacob Elordi, since season 1 in 2019, and it was announced that Hans Zimmer will also be joining as a composer for season 3.
“A new chapter in the Euphoria universe!” Labyrinth said in a statement at the time of the announcement. “I’m so happy to be working with Hans, one of my heroes in film music, and to bring some new magic to this new season. Love x.”
Representatives for Labyrinth, HBO and Columbia Records did not immediately respond to Variety’s requests for comment or clarification on this statement.
The comments section of Labyrinth’s post was filled with support from friends, with Kesha writing, “Cherish your peace, my love. You are loved and supported.” Fellow musician Skyler Gray added: “Never stop making music that the world needs you to make.”
Labrinth is best known for his contributions to the score and soundtrack for “Euphoria,” with songs such as “All for Us,” “Formula,” “Mount Everest,” and the Grammy-nominated “Never Felt So Alone,” which featured vocals by Billie Eilish, racking up millions of streams.
