Matthew Fox has made a rare comment about his quiet life in Italy after leaving Hollywood more than a decade ago.
“I love it,” the “Lost” alum said about living abroad on Wednesday’s episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
Fox said she is trying her best to learn her native language.
“I’ll get there,” he said. “It’s not an easy language to learn, but I’m learning it.”
Despite not being fluent in Italian, Fox is a certified commercial pilot and is able to fly in his new home country.
“Even in Europe, the language of aviation is English,” he explained, confirming that it is the same in Asian countries.
“Lucky for us. No wonder everyone hates us,” Kimmel, 58, joked.
“That’s right,” Fox replied with a laugh.
Foxx was best known for his roles on Party of Five, which aired from 1994 to 2000, and Lost, which aired from 2004 to 2013, but has largely stayed away from acting since then.
In a recent interview with Variety, Fox said he took a break from acting to “get serious about my family.”
“I was on the set of ‘Lost’ all the time, filming the movie and doing all the promotion, so I missed that part of their childhood,” he said of his children Byron, now 25, and Kyle, now 28, with wife Margherita Ronchi.
“It was the perfect moment for me to step back, take time, and engage with the people I love and cherish most in the world,” he added.
In 2008, Fox told People that her family was considering moving to Oregon for a quieter life.
“I like fishing, hiking and skiing,” he said. “In Oregon, you have easy access to mountains, fresh air, and all that without having to drive long distances.”
Foxx is back in the spotlight with her role in Taylor Sheridan’s new series, The Madison. The film follows a New York City family who moves to Montana’s Madison River Valley after two relatives die in a catastrophic plane crash.
The show also stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Kurt Russell, and Patrick J. Adams.
Foxx said on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” that the show’s writing is “fantastic.”
But Fox said he couldn’t reveal more about the project because there were “too many spoilers.”
“But it’s a great series,” he added.
“The Madison” will premiere on Paramount+ on March 14th.
