Britney Spears’ friend and former assistant Sean Phillippe has revealed details of a text exchange after the singer’s DUI arrest.
“All I texted her was, ‘Are you okay?’ And she said, ‘I’m fine,'” Philippe said on Friday’s episode of Good Morning Britain.
“So I said, ‘Can we talk about this?’ And she said, ‘Please,’ he continued. “And that’s it.”
Philippe said he was “anxious” about interviewing the 44-year-old pop star, but “wanted the world to know” that Spears is “a really great person.”
“And we all make mistakes,” he added.
Spears’ friend also revealed that the two talk “almost every other day.”
“I love her. She’s a very strong person,” he told the British morning show host. “So I was just as surprised as everyone else was when this happened. But that’s not her personality. She’s just a nice, nice, nice person.”
Philippe went on to explain that he has known Spears for “almost 24 years” and is determined that “she is not a toxic person for any reason.”
“I feel bad that she has to put up with her mistakes in public,” he said.
Later in the interview, the host asked Phillippe about Spears’ manager, Cade Hudson, and said in a statement that the drunk driving incident would bring “overdue changes” in Spears’ life.
“The change I would like to see is for (her) to come out of Los Angeles,” Phillippe said. “But I talk to her every week, every day. She’s the same Britney I’ve known since 2003.”
He continued, “I don’t have anything against her character or personality. But you have to think about these things…like who else she associates with.”
Spears was arrested by the California Highway Patrol in Ventura County, California, on suspicion of driving under the influence, at approximately 9:28 p.m. local time on Wednesday.
Audio of the 911 call, obtained exclusively by Page Six, shows a police officer describing Spears’ black MMW sedan convertible as “weaving in and out of lanes” and “exceeding speed.”
The “Toxic” singer, who is believed to have been under the influence of a cocktail of drugs and alcohol at the time of his arrest, underwent a series of field sobriety tests before being booked into the Ventura County Main Jail. She was released three hours later.
After her arrest, she was reportedly taken to a hospital where authorities had blood drawn to determine her blood alcohol level.
Page Six learned that Spears was “crying and very tearful” while being arrested for a DUI arrest.
“She was incredibly emotional,” a source exclusively told us. “The last few months have been very difficult.”
Hudson addressed Spears’ arrest in a statement to Page Six on Thursday, calling the incident “completely inexcusable.”
“Britney intends to take the right steps and abide by the law. We hope this is the first step in the long-awaited changes that should occur in Britney’s life,” her manager said.
“I hope she gets the help and support she needs during this difficult time,” he added.
