Britney Spears is believed to have been under the influence of a cocktail of drugs and alcohol when she was arrested for drunk driving on Wednesday night.
California Highway Patrol told Page Six on Thursday that officers detained the Princess of Pop around 9:28 p.m. local time on suspicion of driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs.
It is heard that she was stopped near the Borchard Road exit ramp in Newbury Park for allegedly driving a black BMW at an “unusual speed”.
Spears, 44, underwent a series of field sobriety tests before he was ultimately arrested and booked into the Ventura County Main Jail.
Her chemical test results are still pending and the investigation is still ongoing.
Additionally, a source close to the Grammy winner told Page Six that officers also found an unknown substance in her car during her arrest.
Immediately after Spears was handcuffed, she was reportedly taken to a hospital to have blood drawn to check her blood alcohol level.
The “Gimme More” singer was booked at 3:02 a.m. Thursday and released at 6:07 a.m., according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
Her arraignment is scheduled for May 4.
In a statement to Page Six, the “Toxic” songstress’ representative, Cade Hudson, called the arrest “unfortunate” and “completely inexcusable.”
“Britney intends to take the right steps and abide by the law. We hope this is the first step in the long-awaited changes that should occur in Britney’s life,” he said.
“I hope she gets the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
Hudson also revealed that Spears plans to “spend time” with her sons Sean Preston and Jayden James, adding, “Her loved ones will make the necessary plans that are long overdue to help her be happy and successful.”
Another source also told Page Six that the pop star became “incredibly emotional” during the arrest and didn’t want to let anyone down.
Spears’ latest run-in with the law came after she was caught driving erratically during a night out in October.
