Scream series creator Kevin Williams said he has “a lot of ideas” for the eighth movie.
“If this movie is successful and there’s an audience, you know we’re going to make it because one, I think the studios want to make it, and two, we as people who are making these movies want to make it, because… it’s so much fun to make and it’s so much fun,” says Williamson, who will make his series directorial debut with Scream 7.
Variety reported earlier this week that “sources suggest plans are already in place for the killer to make a deadly comeback in the eighth movie.”
Series executive producer Marianne Maddalena said filming for “Scream 8” could begin in the fall. However, sources say it is still too early to say when cameras will start rolling.
Scream 7 will see Neve Campbell reprise her iconic role as Sidney Prescott, who did not appear in the sixth film due to salary issues. Courteney Cox also returns as Gail Weathers. Returning and new cast members include Isabel May, Jasmine Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Anna Camp, Jimmy Tatro, Joel McHale, Celeste O’Connor, McKenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Ethan Embry, Victor Turpin, and Tim Simmons. Past cast members David Arquette, Scott Foley, and Matthew Lillard may or may not appear in the new film.
Cox remained laughably tight-lipped about his return to Scream 8. “How Do I Know I Survived?” (“Scream 7”) ” she said, adding, “I think people would want to do Scream again.” It’s fun and great. I don’t think I’ll be able to make the next one, but maybe I’ll see it. ”
When the original Scream was released in 1996, Cox said she had no idea she would still be playing Gale 30 years later.
Scream 7 is packed with imaginative new kills. No major spoilers here, but will they become as legendary as the series’ past deaths?
“There was always Tatum (Rose McGowan) at the garage door, that’s a classic,” Gooding said when asked about her favorite series. “That’s great. But there’s something about the scene in VI where Anika (Devin Nekota) falls out the window into the trash can that feels incredibly gruesome and cathartic in so many ways.”
Arquette recalled when Tatum was shot and killed in the garage. “It was really a coincidence. Who would have thought of something that crazy?” he said. “And when you were there, her fake body was hanging there for weeks after they shot the scene and moved it, but no one ever pulled down Tatum’s hanging body. It just hung there for two weeks.”
“Scream 7” is currently in theaters.
