PBS Distribution has acquired the U.S. rights to Wildgaze Films’ love story “Trespasses” and Hera Pictures’ true-life drama “I Fought the Law” from All3Media Intl.

“Trespasses” stars Laura Petticrew (“Say Nothing”), Tom Cullen (“The Gold”) and Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Gillian Anderson (“Sex Education”).

The show is a story of forbidden love set against the backdrop of the turmoil of 1970s Belfast.

The US acquisition follows deals in Europe and Australia, as well as four nominations at the Irish Film and Television Awards.

“I fought the law”

Presented by All3Media Intl.

“Trespasses” was commissioned by Britain’s Channel 4 and is produced by Wildgaze Films (“Brooklyn,” “An Education”), an independent production company run by Oscar-nominated producing duo Finola Dwyer and Amanda Posey.

Directed by BAFTA winner Dawn Shadforth (Mood, Adult Material) and based on Louise Kennedy’s debut novel, which was shortlisted for the Women’s Fiction Award, it is adapted into a TV drama with rising talent Ailv Keoghan (Bad Sisters) in her first leading role.

Starring BAFTA winner Sheridan Smith (Cilla, The Accusation), I Fought the Law tells the true story of Ang Min (Smith), a mother driven by unimaginable grief who defies centuries of law in order to see her daughter’s killer finally brought to justice.

The drama was produced for ITV in the UK by Hella Pictures (Hamnet, What It Feels Like for a Girl), an independent production company founded by award-winning producer Liza Marshall (Riviera, The State).

Written by Jamie Crichton (All Creatures Great and Small) and directed by Eric Richter Strand (The Crown), I Fought the Law is based on Anne Min’s book For the Love of Julie.

All 3 Media International has signed a number of deals for the drama ahead of its UK debut, including acquisitions in Europe, Asia and Australia.

Both shows are expected to launch later this year.

All3Media “As the home of world-class drama, PBS is the perfect destination for ‘Trespassing’ and ‘Fighted the Law,’ and we’re excited that U.S. viewers will soon be able to immerse themselves in these powerful female-led stories,” said Jennifer Askin, vice president of Americas at Intl. Featuring renowned talent on-screen and some of the industry’s best creative talent behind the camera, these unmissable dramas have been a hit with critics and viewers alike, generating rave reviews and awards buzz, PBS.
