NEW YORK — Phil Collins, Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, INXS, Iron Maiden, Luther Vandross and Shakira are some of the 2026 nominees for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which includes a wide range of disciplines including rap, metal, R&B, hip-hop, Britpop, blues-rock and pop.

Hall announced a list of 17 potential performers on Wednesday, which also included Melissa Ethridge, Jeff Buckley, Pink, New Edition, The Shard and Wu-Tang Clan.

Billy Idol and Joy Division/New Order missed out on being inducted into the Hall of Fame last year, but are back for nominations.

The list also includes a repeat of Black Crowes and Oasis, two musical brothers who recently reunited after a public feud.

Collins has won eight Grammy Awards for hits such as “In the Air Tonight” and “One More Night,” including Album of the Year for 1985’s “No Jacket Required.”

Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill made history in 1999 as the first hip-hop album to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

Carey, who was nominated in 2024 and 2025, had 19 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, while soul-jazz vocalist Shard, also nominated in 2024, had soft rock hits such as “Smooth Operator” and “The Sweetest Taboo.”

Wu-Tang Clan has been hailed as an innovator in rap since their groundbreaking 1993 debut album, “Enter the Wu-Tang.”

INXS dominated the charts in the late 1980s with hits like “Need You Tonight,” “Devil Inside,” and “New Sensations.” Etheridge, a two-time Grammy Award winner, is best known for the songs “Come to My Window” and “I’m the Only One.”

Iron Maiden powered a new wave of British heavy metal with iconic albums like ‘The Number of the Beast’.

New Edition includes hits such as “Cool It Now” and “Candy Girl,” and Shakira has been praised for her ability to bridge Latin music with rock and pop.

Pink has had four No. 1 songs and three No. 1 albums, including “The Truth About Love.”

Ten of the 17 nominees will be on the ballot for the first time: Buckley, Collins, Ethridge, Hill, INXS, New Edition, Pink, Shakira, Vandross, and Wu-Tang Clan.

Vandross, who sold more than 25 million albums and had hits such as “Here and Now” and “Any Love,” died in 2005.

Buckley died in 1997 after his 1994 debut album Grace received widespread acclaim.

“This talented and diverse list of nominees recognizes the evolving face and sound of rock and roll and its continued impact on youth culture,” Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation President John Sykes said in a statement.

The 2026 inductees will be announced in April, along with inductees who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame based on three special committee categories: Musical Impact, Musical Excellence and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award.

Artists must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before being eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame.

Nominees will be voted on by more than 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry experts.

Last year, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Soundgarden, Joe Cocker, Salt-N-Pepa, The White Stripes, Carol Kaye, Nicky Hopkins, Lenny Waronker, Thom Bell and Warren Zevon were inducted.
