Let them have their cake and eat it too.
Millie Bobby Brown celebrated her 22nd birthday at the French court on February 20th with a Marie Antoinette-themed party at Maison Close, a French restaurant in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood.
The “Stranger Things” alum, who turned 22 on February 19, wore a pale pink jacquard corset with puff sleeves and ruffled trim, and was adorned with teardrop pearls throughout.
She paired the corset with a removable pearl-encrusted belt featuring exaggerated side panniers (a flourish of the French court in the 18th century), and paired it with ruffled white bloomers and sheer thigh-high stockings.
A multi-layered pearl choker with a dangling pendant and matching drop earrings completed the look.
Her beauty and fashion brand, Florence by Mills, shared additional videos and photos showing Brown wearing a towering white wig adorned with pearls, purple ribbons, and pink feathers, captioning the tribute, “In her ✨22✨ years,” and calling Brown “the fro queen of our hearts.”
Meanwhile, Brown posted a bunch of photos on Instagram on Monday with the caption, “I don’t know about you,” a reference to the lyrics of Taylor Swift’s birthday anthem “22.”
Her husband, Jake Bongiovi, 23, was by her side at the celebration. The couple, who tied the knot in May 2024 and had a second wedding in Tuscany in September 2024, posed together in front of a multi-tiered birthday cake topped with sparklers as friends dressed in period costume gathered around them.
Bon Jovi, the son of rocker Jon Bon Jovi, was seen wearing a dark jacquard jacket and white ruffled collar shirt, in keeping with the night’s 18th century dress code.
The intimate guest list included Stranger Things director Shawn Levy, castmate Jamie Campbell Bower (who plays the show’s villain Vecna), reality stars Whitney and Connor Leavitt, content creator Elena Taber, and Brown’s mother and grandparents. David Harbor, who plays Brown’s on-screen father Jim Hopper, was the only other Stranger Things cast member spotted at the celebration.
However, not everyone was attracted to this theme. Some fans on social media questioned the choice of Marie Antoinette – the French queen whose lavish extravagance became a symbol of aristocratic excess and was ultimately executed during the Revolution – as the muse for a millionaire celebrity’s birthday party. Others came to Brown’s defense, saying the criticism went too far and pointing out that the party was just a fun costume theme.
