‘Pachinko’ stars Kim Min-ha and Noh Sang-hyun reunite in Netflix romantic comedy

Netflix has started production on a new Korean romantic comedy movie “Messily Ever After” (tentative title) that reunites “Pachinko” stars Kim Min-ha and Noh Sang-hyun.

The film follows Soo-hyun and Hyun-tae, a couple in a ten-year relationship that oscillates between deep love and mutual resentment. “Leaning into the emotional whiplash of a long-term relationship, ‘Messily Ever After’ explores what it really means to stay together after the honeymoon phase has long since ended, capturing the messy mix of loyalty, frustration, desire and doubt that comes with truly knowing someone. The film promises to blend a grounded perspective on modern relationships with sharp and witty storytelling,” Netflix said.

Kim, known for her roles in “Pachinko,” “Typhoon Family,” and “On the Way Home,” will play Soo-hyun, a perfectionist curator who keeps everything in order as a professional, but finds herself crumbling when jealousy and love enter. Noh Sang-hyun, who also starred in “Pachinko” and “Love in the Big City,” plays Hyeon-tae, a passionate installation artist who is not afraid to stand up for himself. The casting reunites the two actors following their on-screen romance in Pachinko, this time playing college sweethearts who have been dating for 10 years.

This film marks Seo Jeong-min’s feature directorial debut. The film will be produced by Bombaram Film, the same studio that produced director Namkeun Song’s young adult romance “Love Untangled” and director Kim Do-young’s highly acclaimed drama “Kim Ji-young, Born 1982.”

Messily Ever After follows titles such as Love Untangled, 20th Century Girl, and Lost in Starlight as Netflix continues its efforts to champion up-and-coming filmmakers in Korean cinema.

The title joins Netflix’s extensive Korean slate of releases released in January.
