Wuthering Heights debuted at number one at the British and Irish box office, earning 7.6 million pounds ($10.4 million) in its opening weekend, according to Warner Bros. ComScore.
The Emerald Fennell movie, starring Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie, is also the number one movie at the global box office.
“GOAT” came in second place with $4.8 million, and “Crime 101” came in third with $1.9 million. Both will be distributed by Sony Pictures.
Last weekend’s chart-topper, Disney’s “Send Help,” rose to No. 4 in the second slot, adding $1.1 million for a total of $22.6 million. In fifth place, Lionsgate’s “The Housemaid” continued its long run with $754,000, raising its total to $42.3 million.
The center of the chart was dominated by holdovers. Disney’s “Zootopia 2” came in 6th place with $610,000 and $46.2 million, while Universal’s “Hamnet” came in 7th place with $480,000 and reached $23.8 million.
Further down the list, Kazoo Films’ debut film “Stitch Head” came in at No. 8 with $360,000, followed by Black Bear’s “Whistle” in No. 9 with $317,000. Disney’s long-running hit “Avatar: Fire and Ash” rounded out the top 10 with $267,000 for a total of $57.5 million.
Among upcoming releases, Trafalgar Releasing will release the concert film “Chase Atlantic: Lost in Heaven” on February 18th, followed by “Paul McCartney: Man on the Run.”
universal will premiere “the moment” starring charlie xcx, alexander skarsgard and rosanna arquette in 100 locations. Trinity Filmed Entertainment is preparing two Asian titles to coincide with the Lunar New Year celebrations: Zhang Yimou’s thriller “Scare Out” starring Jackson Yee and Zhu Yilong, and the Hong Kong-set drama “The Night King” starring Dayo Wong and Sammy Cheng.
Also in the slot are Dogwoof’s documentary “Fukushima,” which was released to coincide with the 15th anniversary of the 2011 disaster, British Lionsgate’s prison drama “Wasteman,” Studio Canal’s body horror “Cold Storage,” and the movie’s Oscar- and BAFTA-nominated political drama “The Secret Agent,” directed by Kleber-Mendonça Filho and starring Wagner Moura. Picturehouse Entertainment will release Mary Bronstein’s “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You” with Rose Byrne and Conan O’Brien, while Park Circus will reissue 4K restoration of “A Knight’s Tale” to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
Releases also include the Miracle/Bollywood movie animation “Running Man Revengers” and Sovereign’s animal shelter documentary “Collective Monologues.” The regular series of releases from India includes Bakrania Media’s Bollywood romance ‘Do Deewane Seher Mein’, Dreamz Entertainment’s Telugu fantasy adventure ‘Swayambhu’ and Malayalam drama ‘Spa’.
Anime Ltd. will release “Lupine the Third: Immortal Bloodline” in theaters over the weekend.
