As the investigation into the disappearance continued, authorities recovered DNA from Nancy Guthrie’s Arizona home, but the DNA did not belong to anyone “close” to her.
“DNA of individuals other than Nancy Guthrie and her close contacts was collected from the property. Investigators are working to determine who it belonged to,” the Pima County Sheriff’s Office said in an update Friday.
The department declined to disclose where the DNA was found.
Earlier this week, it was reported that law enforcement officials had taken DNA samples from hired workers around the Guthrie mansion.
On Wednesday, authorities found suspicious black gloves similar to those used by the suspected kidnapper to kidnap her near Nancy Guthrie’s property.
In Friday’s update, PCSD cited the police’s recent findings and said “several” gloves were recovered during the investigation.
“The closest pair of gloves was found approximately two miles from the home. Reports that gloves were found in the residence or on property are inaccurate,” the statement said.
Law enforcement officials further shared that the evidence collected was submitted for laboratory analysis.
They said they were working with the FBI to send the evidence to “the same out-of-state laboratory that has been utilized since the beginning of this case” after reports of clashes between the two teams emerged on Friday.
He stressed that the Pima County Sheriff’s Office continues to “continue to follow up on all leads,” adding that the suspect description posted by the FBI earlier this week “remains a key focus.”
“However, investigators have not ruled out any individuals or possibilities. No suspicious vehicle has been identified. We ask the public to continue submitting actionable tips. All submitted videos are being reviewed,” they said.
On Thursday, FBI Phoenix shared with X that the suspect is approximately 5-foot-9 or 5-foot-10 tall and of average build. He carried a 25-liter black Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack.
The agency also announced an increased reward of up to $100,000 for “information leading to the location of Nancy Guthrie and/or the arrest and conviction of those involved in her disappearance.”
Journalist Savannah Guthrie’s mother Nancy (84) has been missing since February 1st. Nancy was last seen at around 9:45 p.m. on January 31st, after having dinner with her family.
Son-in-law Tomasso Cioni was the last person to see his grandmother when he dropped her off at her home just before police believe she was taken in her sleep in the middle of the night.
On Tuesday, the FBI released a disturbing photo of an “armed person” wearing a mask on Nancy’s doorstep.
According to police, the suspect appears to have tampered with the camera at the front door of the home.
