The FBI announced Thursday that it is increasing its reward to $100,000 for information that leads to the location of Nancy Guthrie or the arrest and conviction of those responsible for her disappearance.
The FBI Phoenix office also released new identifying information about the possible kidnapper, describing the suspect as a “male, approximately 5’9″ to 5’10” tall, of average build. In the video, he is seen carrying a black 25-liter ‘Ozark Trail Hiker Pack’ backpack,’ the FBI Phoenix office posted on X.
The agency has received more than 13,000 tips since Savannah Guthrie’s mother was reported missing on Feb. 1, and the department said the description could help narrow down the tips.
This account comes from a forensic analysis of Ring camera video taken from Guthrie’s front door. On Tuesday, the FBI released the first image taken from Ring’s camera, showing a masked man wearing a backpack and armed with a gun. This video appears to have been captured just before the camera was disabled.
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on February 1st, and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department declared her disappearance a crime on February 2nd. After investigators found “concerning” evidence of Nancy Guthrie in her Arizona home, Sheriff Chris Nanos said he believes the girl did not leave the house “on her own.”
Also Tuesday, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department told ABC News that a person was in custody for questioning in connection with the case and that authorities were preparing to search locations associated with the detainee. However, the person was later released.
Along with publishing the photo, Patel wrote: “As of this morning, law enforcement, working with our partners, has discovered these new, previously inaccessible images showing an armed individual who appears to have tampered with Nancy Guthrie’s front door camera the morning she disappeared.”
Savannah Guthrie posted a video on her Instagram on Monday pleading for the public’s help in her mother’s recovery.
“We believe our mother is still out there,” Savannah Guthrie said in the video. “We need your help. Law enforcement is working around the clock to bring her home. We’re trying to find her. She’s been taken and we don’t know where she is. And we need your help.”
She continued further. “That’s why I’m just here to ask for prayers. No matter where you are — even if you’re far from Tucson — if you see anything, hear anything, anything that seems at all odd, please call law enforcement. We are in desperate times and we need your help.”
