Greenwich Entertainment has acquired world rights to The Scout, the directorial debut of Paula González-Nasser, who also wrote the screenplay. The film had its world premiere in the U.S. Narrative Competition section at the Tribeca Festival. Greenwich plans to release the film in theaters nationwide later this year.
“The Scout” follows Mimi Davila as a location scout over the course of a day as she interacts with a small group of New York City residents as she struggles to secure a location for a television show. The film also stars Ruthanya Alda, Ottmara Marrero, Max Rosen, Sarah Herman, Ikechukwu Ufomadu, and Matt Baratz. Critics welcomed the film, with The AV Club calling it a “charming, awkward, and funny debut feature.”
Following its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, The Scout has been screened at several film festivals, including the Mill Valley Film Festival, the Vancouver International Film Festival, and the American Film Festival in Poland.
“I am honored to partner with Greenwich, a company I have long admired for its dedication to theatrical distribution, on the release of my directorial debut,” said González-Nasser. “Personally, I am extremely grateful to Greenwich for its continued support and advocacy of true independent film, and I am thrilled that audiences will be able to experience The Scout in theaters and beyond.”
Scout was produced by Gonzalez Nacer, Ryan Martin Brown, and Matthew Romanski. Executive producers include Jess Zeidman, Sarah Herman, Hannah Kettering and Roger Mancusi. The deal was negotiated by Greenwich’s Jasper Basch on behalf of the filmmakers with Cinetic’s Zach Majid.
Previous Greenwich films include Jimmy Chin and Chai Vasarheli’s Academy Award-winning film Free Solo, Oscar-winner Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman’s Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice, and Coup de la Coup. “Close to You” starring Peter Sarsgaard and Billy Magnussen, “The Critic” starring Ian McKellen, “Bonjour Tristesse” starring Lily McInerney, Claes Bang and Chloë Sevigny, and “Love, Brooklyn” starring Andre Holland. Upcoming releases include Michel Franco’s “Dreams,” starring Jessica Chastain, and “Omaha,” starring John Magaro.
