On Sunday, Bad Bunny performed at the Super Bowl halftime show, bringing a fresh, fun, cameo-filled party to the crowd during the Seattle Seahawks-New England Patriots game. The entire set was less than 15 minutes long, but the Puerto Rican rapper packed in a ton of songs, references, and celebrities, including Pedro Pascal, Cardi B, Karol G, and Jessica Alba.
He also included tributes to special people in his personal life. During his set, Bad Bunny wore an all-white Zara look, topped with a number 64 jersey. While viewers may not have understood the choice, Complex has learned that the musician was paying homage to his late uncle, who wore the number during his soccer days. While he was singing, number 64 was clearly visible to his fans and family who were watching everywhere.
During the performance, Bad Bunny also invited musicians Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin to the stage. The Mayhem artist wore a blue flamenco-style dress with a red and white corsage and sang a salsa version of “Die With a Smile.” The flower brooch featured the Flor de Maga, the national flower of Puerto Rico.
It was a big night for Bad Bunny, who scored a huge Album of the Year win at last weekend’s Grammy Awards with DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS.
In his acceptance speech, Bad Bunny said in Spanish, “Puerto Ricans, please believe that we are much bigger than 100 x 35 (miles) and there is nothing we can’t achieve. Thank you God. Ahead of the halftime show, Bad Bunny said he planned to relax and have a good time, keeping the surprise of a cameo under wraps.
“I just want people to have fun,” he said. “It’s going to be a big party. I want to bring a lot of my culture to the stage. I don’t want to spoil anything. It’s easy. People just need to think about dancing. I know I said you have a month to learn Spanish, but you don’t even need that! You better learn to dance. There’s no dance like dance that comes from the heart.”
