Margot Robbie borrowed a one-of-a-kind piece from Charlotte Bronte’s personal collection for the UK premiere of Wuthering Heights in London on Thursday.
The actress walked the wildflower-lined red carpet in a show-stopping Dilara Findikoglu corset dress complete with faux-blonde braids and Manolo Blahnik heels.
But what immediately caught our eye was the bracelet on her left wrist.
Mourning jewelry dates back to the 16th century, but it became particularly popular during the Victorian era. Rings, bracelets, pendants, and other pieces were made to commemorate deceased loved ones and were often made using hair.
Wuthering Heights author Emily Brente and her sister Anne died within six months of each other, in December 1948 and May 1949 respectively.
Following the death of her brothers, Charlotte Bronte commissioned this bracelet to be made by braiding their hair and forever intertwining them.
The clasp is carved gold with a large amethyst set in the center and another dangling from the base as a pendant.
Princess Charlotte is said to have worn this bracelet every day, and it is now in the Bronte Parsonage Museum.
Robbie’s hair-sweeping gown was perhaps topped only by the incredible piece of history etched on her wrist.
Her dress was made of sheer silk chiffon with a boned corset bodice and criss-crossed with golden braids from head to toe.
Around her neck was a braided choker similar to Bronte’s bracelet, and for extra sparkle Robbie and stylist Andrew Mukamal turned to Jessica McCormack to choose garnet, diamond and pearl earrings and a four-carat ruby ring.
Two archival Boucheron brooches, one from 1900 and one from 1920, set with sparkling red stones, completed the lobby’s regal look.
All of Robbie’s Wuthering Heights press tour outfits have been great so far, but she and Mukamal truly outdid themselves by incorporating the book’s author into their latest costumes.
