Joshua Jackson has been cast in the pilot for the HBO Max drama “How to Survive Without Me” from Greg Berlanti and Bash Dolan.
The official logline for the project states, “In the wake of matriarch Beverly’s death, the De Angelis family begins to drift, unsure of how to manage their complex and evolving lives without her guidance, but in true Beverly fashion, she takes over the show from the other side. If they want to experience Beverly’s final work, the family must find the time to stay connected and be there for each other through all of life’s upcoming challenges.” Please come. ”
Jackson plays Cooper, a “chef who is opening a members-only dining club in Los Angeles,” who “literally inherited his mother’s recipes and approach to food. He presents himself as a confident and playful man, but he is quietly suffering. To his mother’s credit, he harbors a secret that could ruin both a lifelong friendship and the culinary career he has built.”
He joins Ray Romano, who had previously announced the role of Leo, who was “suddenly cast in the role of a recently widowed and unauditioned parent. As his five complex adult children begin to navigate their lives without their mother at their center, Leo is forced to find his own voice as a parent, stepping out of his wife’s shadow to become a new, different and effective center of the family.”

The story for “How to Survive Without Me” is written by Berlanti, Dolan and Robbie Rogers, with Berlanti and Dolan writing the project. Berlanti, Rogers, Sarah Schechter and Lee London Redman will serve as executive producers for Berlanti Productions through an overall agreement with Warner Bros. Television, which will serve as the studio for the project. Dolan will also serve as executive producer.
