Kitty Wang must always keep her hands clean, unblemished and camera ready.
Still, the hand model admits there’s one hobby she still can’t quit, despite the potential impact on her career.
“I try to be very careful, but people always tell me that I’m a little obsessed with volleyball,” the 29-year-old, who earns up to $2,000 a day, tells PEOPLE.
High-impact sports can easily lead to jammed fingers, cuts, and bruises, so Wang’s love of beach volleyball outweighs any fear of injury.

She says other hand models wear gloves to protect their hands when they’re out and about, but they’re always shocked to learn that she still plays volleyball in her free time.
“I try not to think about it too much, because I feel like the more I think about it, the more I’m going to hurt myself,” Wang said. “That’s why I play volleyball. I know it’s a big risk, but I’ve been playing for three years and thank God nothing has happened to me. I’ve never had any major injuries and I’ve just been careful. I try not to think about it too much.”
In a viral TikTok video, Wang explained all the things you should not do when it comes to your career.
“It’s a bit of a contradiction because I can’t do demanding sports like mountain climbing or sports like volleyball, but I do play volleyball,” she said in the clip.
“I don’t do gel manicures because it’s hard on my nails. I always have to wear nude colors. No bright colors or reds, and I haven’t had one in years,” she added.
She also revealed that she avoids anything that involves “cooking and cutting” or “sharp objects.”
“I have to be careful when playing with dogs because they might scratch my hand,” Wang said in the video.
Despite the risks of volleyball, Wang says she prioritizes hand care over everything else.
“I keep hand lotion everywhere in my car and house because I always apply lotion and try to stay moisturized,” she says. “I also only use cuticle oil every night. I do a hand mask the night before (a shoot), and then I bring cuticle oil and serum with me.”
“I sometimes take photos from close enough to see the details and imperfections of the nail bed, so I always try to keep it moisturized.”
I don’t touch anything other than volleyball.
