Catherine O’Hara’s Home Alone co-stars are mourning her tragic death at the age of 71.
The actress, who was rushed to hospital in a “critical” condition before passing away on Friday, starred in the 1990 Christmas film alongside Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, John Heard, Devin Rattray and John Candy.
O’Hara reprized her role as Kate McAllister in the 1992 sequel, Home Alone 2.
Before Mr. O’Hara passed away, Mr. Heard passed away in 2017 at the age of 72.

Macaulay Culkin
The actor played Kevin McAllister, O’Hara and Heard’s on-screen son.
Culkin and O’Hara remained close over the years, with the actress telling Us Weekly in 2025: “He’s just a nice young man. I just care about him. I care about him. I’m so happy that he’s doing so well. … He has a nice family and he’s starting his own little family. He’s a sweet young man.”
“Mom, I thought there was still time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit in the chair next to you. I heard your voice,” he wrote on Instagram on Friday, beneath a shot of the duo from Home Alone and a photo of them side by side at the 2023 Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.
“But there was so much more I wanted to say. I love you. See you again.”

“Today we lost Catherine O’Hara. Along with everyone around the world, I am stunned and heartbroken,” the “Home Alone” director posted on Instagram Friday.
“I’ve always been a big fan of Katherine’s great comedy work on SCTV, and I was thrilled when she agreed to play Kevin’s mother on Home Alone.”
“What most people don’t realize is that Katherine carries 50 percent of the weight of that movie,” Columbus continued. “This film would not be possible without her extraordinary performance. Katherine carries this film with great emotional depth and she will be sorely missed.”
Devin Rattray
Rattray, who played O’Hara’s son Buzz McAllister on screen, mourned his film mother on Instagram on Friday.
“One of the greatest people I’ve ever met,” Rattray wrote above a photo of the two of them in the 1990s.
Rattray appeared in the first two Home Alone films. He reprized the role in the 2021 sequel, Home Sweet Home Alone.
