Michael Keaton is mourning the death of his “true friend” and “Beetlejuice” co-star Catherine O’Hara.

“It goes back to before the first ‘Beetlejuice,'” Keaton recalled Friday while sharing a recent photo of the two on Instagram.

“She was my fake wife, my fake nemesis, my real friend in real life. This hurts. Oh, I’m going to miss her so much. And I think about (Bo),” O’Hara concluded her emotional eulogy, referring to her husband of 33 years, Beau Welch.

Michael Keaton has paid a touching tribute to his “true friend” and “Beetlejuice” co-star Catherine O’Hara.
“She was my false wife, false nemesis, and true friend in my real life. This hurts,” he wrote on Instagram Friday.

O’Hara and Keaton both starred in Tim Burton’s 1988 cult film, playing Delia Dietz and the title character, respectively.

The dark comedy was so beloved that it will be played on Broadway several times from 2019 to early 2026, and O’Hara was once honored by the musical’s cast.

The two later collaborated on several other film projects, including 1994’s “The Paper” and 2005’s “Game 6,” in which they played a married couple.

Most recently, Keaton, 74, and O’Hara reunited to produce the long-awaited Beetlejuice sequel in 2024.

In January of that year, the “Schitt’s Creek” star was thrilled to be co-starring with Keaton in “Beetlejuice.”

“I had a little alone moment with Michael as Beetlejuice. I was in a group scene with Michael in the first movie, but in this one we actually had a moment where it was just the two of us,” she told People magazine.

“And it was really crazy and thrilling to come face to face with Beetlejuice. He looks the same. Beetlejuice has aged very well.”

The following month, Keaton told the show how much care he and O’Hara took to make sure the sequel was made “just right.”

“We thought, ‘We have to do this right. If not, quit. Let’s get on with our lives and do other things,'” he explained.

“So I was hesitant and cautious, and he was probably just as hesitant and cautious,” Keaton continued. “Once we got there, we said, ‘Okay, let’s give it a try. Let’s see if we can do it, see if we can get it done.'”

O’Hara passed away on Friday after suffering a “brief illness,” CAA told Page Six in a statement.

The cause of death for the “Home Alone” star, who suffered from a rare medical condition called dextrocardia, has not been disclosed.

She was taken to a Los Angeles hospital in “critical” condition early Friday morning, where she later died, according to a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson.

O’Hara was last seen in public at Apple TV+’s Primetime Emmy Party in Los Angeles in September 2025 to celebrate her co-starring show, The Studio, with Seth Rogen.

“I really don’t know what to say…When I first met O’Hara, I told her I thought she was the funniest person I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing on screen,” Rogen wrote in an Instagram caption on Friday.

“‘Home Alone’ is the movie that made me want to make movies. It was an absolute honor to work with her. She was hysterical, kind, intuitive, generous… made me want to make a show worthy of her presence. This is truly shocking. We are all lucky to live in the world she stars in,” he wrote.
