Prime Video has greenlit Don’t Be Shy, an original romantic comedy produced by Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt through their Eternal Sunshine Productions banner and co-produced by Grishma Shah and Vikesh Bhutani.

Written and directed by Sreethi Mukerji, this coming-of-age film revolves around 20-year-old Shamili “Shy” Das. Her carefully planned life begins to unravel as an unexpected turn of events causes things to spiral beyond her control. Mr. Mukherji has previously been part of the directorial team for the Bollywood hits ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ and ‘Brahmastra Part 1: Shiva’.

Nikhil Madhok, director and head of originals, Prime Video India, said, “We are thrilled to be collaborating with Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt on this highly entertaining and warm-hearted romantic comedy centered around a remarkable character like Shai Das.” “Aria’s innate instinct for emotionally rich, deeply relatable, and highly entertaining stories shines through in this young adult tale of friendship, love, and coming of age.”

Madhok highlighted the project’s female-fronted stories, calling the writing fresh, relatable, and humorous with serious characters. The film features original music by composer Ram Sampath.

“At Eternal Sunshine, we have always wanted to tell stories that feel honest and champion our own voices,” said Alia Bhatt, co-founder of Eternal Sunshine Productions. “This film immediately spoke to us because of its honesty and lens of growth, and because Sreethi’s passion and energy naturally poured into the spirit of the story.”

Bhatt said this project was particularly meaningful to both herself and Eternal Sunshine Productions, praising Prime Video as a partner who consistently takes bold creative requests and supports unique storytelling.

Eternal Sunshine Productions was founded in 2021 by Bhatt, one of India’s most celebrated actors, and her sister Shaheen Bhatt, author of the best-selling mental health memoir, I Was Never Happy. The production company’s debut feature Darlings, co-produced with Red Chillies, will premiere on Netflix in 2022 and is director Jasmeet K. Reen’s first film. The company went on to produce the Prime Video series “Poacher,” directed by Emmy Award winner Richie Mehta, and the action-adventure “Jigra,” directed by Vasan Bala, co-produced with Dharma Productions.

Prime Video’s Indian original content includes the series ‘Paatal Lok’, ‘Mirzapur’, ‘The Family Man’, ‘Panchyat’, ‘Made in Heaven’ and ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’, as well as original films such as ‘Shershaah’, ‘Sardar Udham’ and ‘Maja Ma’.
