Jimmy Kimmel broke down in tears twice on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Monday night while reacting to the murder of ICU nurse Alex Preti by ICU staff in Minneapolis.
“I spent the weekend, probably like a lot of people, looking at my phone, just shocked and sickened by what was going on in Minneapolis,” Kimmel said at the beginning of his monologue. “Video after video played: people screaming and being torn from their families, American-born people being dragged from cars for being American, accents, etc. Children, small children, babies being tear gassed, detained, separated from their parents.”
“Atrocity after atrocity is committed by a group of poorly trained, shamefully led, masked thugs. And that’s who they are: despicable, ruthless, even criminal thugs. It’s disgusting and frustrating to watch.”
Kimmel also argued that seeing “fellow Americans executed by ICE” should be a wake-up call for those who voted for Trump.
“Is it law and order that you voted for? Where are the rational voices on the right? We need decent people on the right who show courage and common sense,” he said, before adding, “Every day is a nightmare right now.”
The events in Minneapolis were personally shocking for Kimmel, who revealed that he and his wife have family in the city. “They’re afraid to take their kids to school. They’re afraid to go to work,” he says. “And I can only imagine how non-white people feel about this.”
