Globoplay, Brazil’s top streaming service and one of the few domestic SVOD players in Latin America that can compete with the world’s global streamers in a large domestic market, has signed an agreement with Fremantle to acquire “Sullivan’s Crossing.”
The deal marks the first time Brazilians will be able to watch CTV original series.
Based on the book by New York Times bestselling novelist Robin Carr, who inspired Netflix’s blockbuster hit Virgin River, and adapted into a TV drama by showrunner Roman Roth, Sullivan’s Crossing stars Morgan Cohan (When Hope Calls), Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill) and Scott Patterson (Gilmore Girls). Season 1 of “Sullivan’s Crossing” begins in March 2026.
As reported by Variety when the series was announced, “Sullivan’s Crossing” pits neurosurgeon Maggie Sullivan against another as her Boston life crumbles around her, putting a fork in the road where her personal and professional path once moved effortlessly forward.
Forced to head in the opposite direction, she finds her way back to the rural town she once called home. There, his estranged father runs a local outpost. “The 10-episode romantic drama revolves around Maggie confronting past trauma and reconnecting with long-forgotten parts of herself. Tapping into relatable themes of community, family ties, love, and self-actualization, the drama allows its characters to grow, heal, and live a little bit in the process,” Variety reported.
“Sullivan’s Crossing” is also part of Fremantle’s focus on English-language production over the past decade, with expansion in the UK, where it won with BBC One’s “The Responder” starring Martin Freeman in 2022, as well as Australia and now Canada.
“Sullivan’s Crossing” also showed that another major global TV player, here in Fremantle, was moving into an even bigger mainstream shift four years ago as distributors and VOD platforms alike sought to capture the large audiences that once extended to the realm of broadcast networks.
That bet is over. Distributed internationally by Fremantle, “Sullivan’s Crossing” has been licensed to more than 180 territories. Season 4 is scheduled to premiere this spring on CTV and Crave in Canada.
“‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ is a beautifully crafted, character-driven series with proven global success, and we are excited to bring it to audiences in Brazil with Globo. Its themes of family, love and second chances are deeply resonant, and we are confident this series will resonate with Globo’s audiences,” said Sheila Aguirre, Fremantle Vice President, Latin America and Hispanic US Co-Production and Distribution.
“Bringing ‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ to Globo Play reinforces our commitment to offering an increasingly diverse catalog, embracing different storytelling styles and expanding the possibilities for connection with our viewers. This series is here to strengthen our portfolio of emotional drama and stories that truly resonate with our viewers,” added Tatiana Costa, Director of Entertainment and News Channels and Content at Globo.
Ross, who is also the series’ creator and executive producer, said, “I’m so excited to share Sullivan’s Crossing with Brazil, a country known for its love of romance and telenovelas. I can’t wait to see what viewers think!”
From the executive producing team of Virgin River, Ross and Christopher E. Perry, Sullivan’s Crossing will be executive produced by Reel World Management in association with Bell Media’s CTV, The CW and Fremantle. Mark Tetreault, Mark Gingras and Jason Levangie will serve as producers. For Fremantle, Michela Dimond and Hilary Martin will also serve as executive producers.
