Spy thriller ‘Special Ops’ Season 2 emerged as the most-watched streaming original in India in 2025, attracting 29.6 million viewers on JioHotstar, according to Ormax Media’s annual audience measurement report.

Friday Storytellers’ spy drama led JioHotstar in a highly competitive field with three of the top 10 and four of the top 11, demonstrating the platform’s dominance in India’s streaming wars. Netflix led the way overall with 20 entries in the top 50, with Prime Video and Amazon MX Player proving to be strong competitors in both the premium and ad-supported tiers.

JioHotstar secured the second spot with Applause Entertainment and BBC Studios India’s courtroom drama “Criminal Justice: A Family Matter” (27.7 million viewers). Prakash Jha Productions’ ‘Ek Badnaam Aashram’ Season 3 Part 2 on Amazon MX Player ranked third with 27.1 million viewers, demonstrating the growing influence of the free ad-supported platform.

Prime Video’s major titles performed well, with D2R Films’ “The Family Man” Season 3 coming in fourth with 24.6 million viewers, and TVF’s “Paatal Lok” Season 4 coming in fifth with 23.8 million viewers. The platform’s Clean Slate Filmz and Eunoia Films’ ‘Paatal Lok’ season 2 attracted 16.8 million viewers.

JioHotstar’s reality show Bigg Boss (Hindi) Season 19, produced by EndemolShine India and Banijay Asia, clocked 20 million viewers. The platform also recorded Graphic India’s animated series ‘The Legend of Hanuman’ Season 6 (16.2 million viewers) and Dashami Creations’ ‘The Secret of the Shiledars’ (14.5 million viewers).

Netflix maintained its premium position alongside Red Chillies Entertainment’s ‘The Ba***ds of Bollywood’ (16.7 million viewers) and Pritish Nandy Communications’ ‘The Royals’ (15.5 million viewers). The streamer’s international properties continued to perform well in India, with “Squid Game” season 3 drawing 16.5 million viewers, “Stranger Things” season 5 drawing 16.4 million viewers, “Wednesday” season 2 drawing 10 million viewers and “Adolescence” 8.7 million viewers.

SonyLIV was included in the ranking along with Kangra Talkies’ political drama ‘Maharani’ season 4 (10.6 million viewers) and StudioNEXT’s ‘Shark Tank India’ season 4 (10.3 million viewers).

Netflix’s film slate was strong, with Marflix Pictures’ The Jewel Thief drawing 13.1 million viewers, Geo Studios and B62 Studios’ Dhoom Dharm with 12.1 million, and Dharmatic Entertainment’s Aap Jaisa Koi with 9.7 million.

Amazon MX Player demonstrated scale for reality TV with Banijay Asia’s “Rise and Fall” (12 million viewers), Frames Production Company’s “Hip Hop India” Season 2 (11.1 million viewers), and Rusk Media’s “Battleground” (9.2 million viewers).

The report employs weekly primary surveys across India and across languages to measure individuals who viewed a property for at least 30 minutes. This methodology counts actual viewers rather than account users and includes all language versions and dubbed feeds, but estimates are limited to the Indian market and do not include international viewers. Full launch predictions have been made and are currently being tracked for some December 2025 launches.

This ranking represents the final independent original report by Ormax Media, which will launch Ormax StreamView in early 2026. The new unified framework tracks long-form content across streaming originals, general entertainment channel programming, feature films, nonfiction, sports, and news, without distinguishing between original and non-original content.

“From 2026 onwards, the distinction between original and non-original will no longer exist in our coverage as viewer behavior on streaming platforms will increasingly transcend such classifications,” said Shailesh Kapur, founder and CEO of Omax Media. “For 18 years, Ormax Media has continually adapted its research framework to meet changing audience consumption patterns. Ormax StreamView is a natural extension of that philosophy.”

The move follows Ormax’s gradual expansion from tracking Hindi originals in 2022 to all major languages in 2024 and adding theatrical films and reality shows in 2025.
