The lights are back on at the Muppet Theater and Kermit the Frog is ready to compete against Miss Piggy and the rest of the unruly ensemble for an all-new special.

Disney+ and ABC have released a trailer for The Muppet Show, a special revival event celebrating the series’ 50th anniversary. The special, which will premiere on February 4, will feature guest appearances by Sabrina Carpenter, Maya Rudolph, and Seth Rogen, who also serves as executive producer.

Announced in September 2025, the special will see the popular Muppet ensemble return to the original Muppet Theater for a night of music, comedy and chaos with Carpenter as special guest. The event will stream on Disney+ at 12am PT/3am ET and air on ABC at 9pm PT/PT.

A new version of “The Muppet Show Theme (2026)” performed by the Muppets and produced by Grammy and Emmy Award winner Bill Sharman will be available on February 4th.

Veteran Muppet performers Bill Barretta, Dave Goeltz, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman, and Matt Vogel play most of the iconic characters. Goelz, who has worked with the Muppets for more than 50 years, starred in the original series and created original characters such as Gonzo and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew.

The original “The Muppet Show” created by Jim Henson ran from 1976 to 1981 and was broadcast in more than 100 countries. The series featured guest stars such as Elton John, Johnny Cash, Diana Ross, Debbie Harry, Gladys Knight, Liza Minnelli, and Paul Simon. During its run, the show won an Emmy Award, a Grammy Award, a Peabody Award, and a BAFTA Award. In 1978, Time magazine called it “the most popular television entertainment currently produced on the planet.”

Alex Timbers will direct and executive produce the special alongside Point Gray Pictures’ Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver and Alex McAtee. David Lightbody, Lee Slaughter and Michael Steinbach are executive producers at Muppets Studio. Carpenter will also serve as executive producer along with Albertina Rizzo, Vogel and Jacobson. 20th Television will produce in association with Disney Branded Television, The Muppets Studio and Point Grey.

All five seasons of The Muppet Show are available to stream on Disney+.
