He never goes out of style.
When it comes to haircuts, Harry Styles has tried everything over the years, from shoulder-length waves to bouffants to shaved heads.
Ever since the One Direction member captured our hearts with his bouffant hair in the 2010s, his hair has been a big topic of conversation, with fans following him every step of the way, from short to long and back again.
And over the years, Styles has dabbled in a variety of “bangsters” in addition to experimenting with fashion. Below, take a look at the complete evolution of his hair so far, from boyband curls to his current retro mullet.
2010: Bouncy Boy Band Coif
As a teenager, the One Direction superfan became famous for her long, side-swept hair.
2013: Rock and Roll Boufan
The “Story of My Life” singer’s hair reached new heights towards the end of her teens, with Styles slicking back her bangs for a bit of an edge.
2014: short and sweet
Styles started her 20s with a shorter style that kept her curls but trimmed the length.
2015: Long Rock
He spent an entire year growing out his mane, eventually sporting shaggy waves that reached far past his shoulders.
2016: Appeared in “Dunkirk”
After One Direction went on “indefinite hiatus” in early 2016, Styles reached for a pair of scissors and teased his major chops with a photo of his chopped off braids. (“Oops,” he captioned the viral snap.)
Shortly after, fans got a glimpse of his new self when he was asked to play a soldier during the filming of Christopher Nolan’s military drama Dunkirk.
2017: Solo Superstar
Styles grew out those closely cut sides while promoting his debut solo album.
2019: The Return of Karl
The “Watermelon Sugar” singer returned to a longer look a few years later.
2020: Further leap forward
Styles delighted many fans at the Brit Awards in October 2020 by sporting a shorter hairstyle and ditching his much-talked-about quarantine mustache. ‘Dunkirk Harry’ quickly trended on Twitter, with avid style enthusiasts comparing the look to what he wore on-screen in the 2017 film.
2021: New Wave
Styles was soon cast opposite Emma Corrin in My Policeman, with his hair styled in gelled waves and as smooth as his character’s uniform.
2022: As it is
Missing the star’s signature curls? During the dramatic press tour for Don’t Worry, Darling, a thriller with then-girlfriend Olivia Wilde, Styles was back in his beloved floppy locks.
2023: Loud Baby
The “Late Night Talking” singer’s hair caused a social media uproar once again when a photo of the pop star with a shaved head was released at a U2 concert in November 2023.
2024: The shaved head will disappear
In January 2024, Styles was spotted sporting slightly longer hair at a tropical resort, and Styles’ fans breathed a sigh of relief as the much-talked-about buzz cut was nowhere to be seen.
2024: Return to growth
While watching a Premier League football match in February 2024, he looked like the most British gentleman ever, wearing an overcoat, dress shirt and patterned sweater vest. And Styles appeared to be back on the path to floppy locks, with his hair long on top and cropped short on the sides.
2024: Fashion’s darling
During London Fashion Week 2024, Prince Harry is hairy again as he sits front row on the SS Daily runway with a spiked ‘do’.
2025: Bora-san
The singer took a break in 2025, spending most of the year living away from the spotlight in Italy. He sported a mullet and mustache and a very European aesthetic.
2026: Disco, sometimes
Styles made his comeback in January 2026, releasing a new album called “Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally” and lead single “Aperture.”
In preparation for the album’s release, the singer appeared to have trimmed his mullet into a short, spiky style, leaving the waves on his face and shaping his mustache.
What’s next for Harry’s hair? Only time will tell.
