ESPN and Words+Pictures have announced Saban, a new six-part documentary series chronicling the life and storied career of former University of Alabama football coach Nick Saban.
According to the official logline, “This series will tell the story of Nick Saban’s extraordinary career, highlighted by 17 seasons at the University of Alabama, where he led the team to six national titles and re-established the Crimson Tide as the preeminent program in college football.”
“After our time as coaches, Mr. Terry and I did a lot of self-reflection and realized we were ready to tell our story,” said Nick Saban. “The Words + Pictures team encouraged me to really reflect on not just my time at Alabama, but all the stops along the way. And they encouraged me to not just reflect on what happened, but to consider the process by which it happened. I’ve interacted with a lot of players and coaches over the years, and I’m glad to see so many of them contributed to this documentary. There’s a lot to tell and I’m excited to share it all.”
The film is directed by Russell Dinaro and produced by Connor Shell, Libby Geist, Aaron Cohen, Alexa Conway and Tom Rinaldi under their Words & Pictures banner. Gabe Honig will serve as showrunner and co-executive producer.
“There will never be another Nick Saban,” said Shell, CEO of Words + Pictures. “He is a football genius, a singular leader, and a true icon who has done more than anyone to shape the modern game of college football and the culture that surrounds it.”
Details such as the first broadcast date and episode development will be revealed at a later date.
