Beta Film has secured several major deals across Europe for premium Spanish drama series.
German-French public broadcaster ARTE and German public broadcaster SWR have acquired two Beta drama series from writer/director/actress Letizia Dolera: the drama “Pubertat – Secrets, Lies, Human Castles” and the comedy-drama “The Perfect Life.”
ONE, the free-to-air channel of German public broadcaster ARD, has secured the rights to the long-running Spanish hit series “Velvet” and its spin-off “The Velvet Collection,” while AXN White has acquired the Spanish thriller series “Shades” for Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Dolera’s “Pubertat – Secrets, Lies and Human Castles” aired on ARTE earlier this year and will air on SWR later this year. The series was screened at last year’s San Sebastian Film Festival and recently won Spain’s Ondas Award for Best Fiction Series.
The show, which consists of six one-hour episodes, is set against the backdrop of the Catalan tradition of the Human Tower, and Dorera portrays a warm look at the lost love between parents and teenagers, and how it is rediscovered.
The series is produced by Distinto Films, Corte y Confección de Películas, Uri Films, Altres Films, AT-Prod, and co-produced with 3Cat, with participation from HBO Max Spain.
ARTE also acquired Dholera’s drama “Perfect Life,” a series of 14 half-hour episodes produced by Movistar Plus+ and Corte y Confección de Pelíuculas. This show is a witty and fun look at adult relationships. The film centers on three very different women in their 30s and 40s: Maria, Christina, and Esther. Just when they think their adult lives are almost decided, each faces an unexpected turning point and realizes how wrong they were.
Shades, a suspenseful crime thriller series of six one-hour episodes, was hailed as “cinematic (and) top-notch” by Focus magazine. The film follows six troubled patients attending a teletherapy retreat in a picturesque vineyard, only to find themselves embroiled in a murder investigation when their renowned psychiatrist is found dead.
Featuring an all-star cast including Elsa Pataky (Fast & Furious, Furiosa), Enrique Arce (Money Heist) and Maxi Iglesias (Valeria), Shades is produced for SkyShowtime by Secuoya Studios and Stellarmedia.
Set in Madrid in the late 1950s, “Velvet” (91 one-hour episodes) depicts the romance between Ana, a haute couture dressmaker, and Alberto, the heir to the fashion house Galerias Velvet. The long-running and successful series is produced by Atresmedia Televisión’s Bambú Producciones. Its popular spin-off, The Velvet Collection (20 one-hour episodes), produced by Movistar Plus+ and Bambú Producciones in association with Beta Film, takes the story to 1960s New York and expands the world of fashion, ambition, and passionate relationships.
