Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco had their first awards season night date as newlyweds at tonight’s Golden Globe Awards. The pair appeared on the red carpet together and remained close during the ceremony, where they were photographed holding hands, posing for photos with Martin Short, and generally hugging each other.
Gomez was nominated for Best Female Actor in a Television Series (Musical or Comedy) for “Murder in the Building.” This is her fourth nomination for this role and her fifth Golden Globe nomination overall. (She was also nominated for the 2024 Jacques Audiard film Emilia Perez.)
When the nominations were announced, she expressed her gratitude, saying, “Thank you @goldenglobes for this recognition after five seasons! I am deeply grateful and forever honored.”
Although Gomez and Blanco have kept much of their romance private, they have also been vocal about how lucky they are to have found each other.
Last January, they spoke about their friends-to-lovers romance in an interview. At first, Blanco did not realize that Gomez was interested in him, but eventually became convinced that he had found his person.
“It feels like you’re going to be friends with someone forever, but you don’t know until you spend the night with them,” Gomez began.
“Yes, I literally didn’t know,” Blanco agreed. “We were in a session and I said, ‘You should meet some friends. I’ll set you up on a date.'” I wasn’t thinking about it at all. We then texted afterwards and decided to have dinner the next day. I guess she thought it was a date, but I didn’t know it was a date. The second time we hung out together, the second date, I thought, “Wait, does she like me?” I was clueless. It got easier after that. When you think you’ve met the right person, you think, “Oh my god.” But it feels so different. The moment we started dating, I thought, “This is my wife.” I said to my mother, “This is the woman I am going to marry.” ”
Gomez similarly spoke passionately about Blanco and their partnership. “My idea, to simplify it, is that you actually feel like you’re valued,” she said. “I feel seen. I feel respected. And I think that’s all I really wanted. I feel like I was all alone in the world. I was alone for five years before we started dating, and because of that, I feel like someone like Ben… He feels so weird when I say this, but honestly, 10 years ago, I wasn’t in a space in my life where I could accept the patience and unconditional love he gives me.”
The couple married in September.
