Jean Smart joked that she’s a “greedy bitch” after winning her third Golden Globe for her role in the HBO Max comedy “Hacks.”

“What can I say?” Smart joked.

She continued her acceptance speech by thanking Golden Globe voters, saying, “I’m one of the luckiest people in this field — not in this room, but in this entire business, and that doesn’t go unappreciated.”

In a short, vague speech that nods to political turmoil and anxiety, Mr. Smart added, “There’s a lot I can say tonight. …Let’s all do the right thing. I think we all know in our hearts what’s right, so let’s do the right thing.”

In the category of Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Television Series, Smart beat out Kristen Bell (Netflix’s “Nobody Wants This”), Ayo Edebiri (FX’s “The Bear”), Selena Gomez (Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building”), Natasha Lyonne (Peacock’s “Poker Face”) and Jenna Ortega (Netflix’s “Wednesday”). Despite being in a major award category, Smart’s performance as the prickly and misunderstood stand-up comedian Deborah Vance won her the award. She won an Emmy Award for all four seasons of “The Hucks,” a Golden Globe Award for seasons 1 and 3, and a three-time SAG Award winner.

Smart also had an award-nominated performance in 2021’s “Mare of Easttown,” and her recent credits include “Watchmen,” “Babylon” and “A Simple Favor.” She also hosted “Saturday Night Live” in 2024 and appeared as herself in the Golden Globes episode of Seth Rogen’s Apple comedy “The Studio.” In 2025, she returned to her live theater roots by leading the Broadway production of “Call Me Izzy.”

“Hacks,” starring Smart and Hanna Einbinder, was released in 2021 and became one of HBO Max’s flagship comedy series. Season 5 is scheduled for sometime in 2026.
