“Black Mirror,” Netflix’s mind-bending anthology series that has foreshadowed many of the technological developments currently plaguing humanity, returns for more.
Creator Charlie Brooker revealed in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum on Friday that the hit show is set to return for Season 8 on the streamer.
“‘Black Mirror’ will be back and hopefully more ‘Black Mirror’ than ever,” he said. “Fortunately, this film has a future, so we’re able to confirm that Black Mirror is coming back just in time for reality to catch up with it. So it’s very exciting. That part of my brain is already activated and buzzing.”
This information will be announced at this weekend’s Golden Globe Awards, where she will be nominated for the first time. Season 7 was nominated for Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series or Movie for Television, with Rashida Jones and Paul Giamatti nominated for their performances in the episodes “Common People” and “Eulogy”, respectively.
Asked about the process of putting together a new season, Brooker didn’t go into details, but likened it to creating an album.
“This is a useful thought experiment when working on new stories,” he said. “I often think, ‘What haven’t I done yet, and what kind of tone am I looking for? … Where is this track going to go on the album, and what musical direction are we going to go in?’ You know, you’re unlikely to see a ‘Black Mirror’ hoedown.”
Black Mirror season 7, released in April 2025, was praised for returning to the tech-centric dystopian theme after the mixed reviews of season 6. In a review by Variety magazine, the USS Callister sequel “Into Infinity” was particularly praised for going beyond the original premise of the first film.
