The family feud is over.
Bam Margera has signed a contract to appear in “Jackass 5” through unreleased archival footage. Although things could change, Variety understands that Margiela has no plans to film any new stunts for the film, which will be released in theaters on June 26th through Paramount Pictures.
A Paramount spokeswoman declined to comment.
The deal marks a truce between director Johnny Knoxville’s Jackass team and original cast member Margiela, who left the 2022 film Jackass Forever after allegedly violating the terms of a health agreement that required regular drug and alcohol testing. In a lawsuit that was later dropped, Margiela claimed she was forced to sign a contract while in rehab in 2019 and was fired from “Jackass” after testing positive for Adderall, which she had been taking as prescribed for 10 years.
In recent years, Margiela has had various health problems and has been in and out of rehab for drug abuse. Knoxville told Variety in 2022 that she hadn’t spoken to Margiela in over a year, and that she “loves Bam” and “hopes he’s doing well and doing well.” He left the door open for Margiela to return to the team, saying, “I just want him to get better. That’s the first step. He has to take that step and keep that step.”
As recently as summer, Margiela denied the possibility of a Jackass reunion, saying, “What they did to me was they made me go to treatment, they made me pay for it, they didn’t put me in movies, and you know… , I had to go to court over it. They couldn’t offer me enough money to want to do ‘Jackass’ again. The damage was done.”
Margiela, a former professional skateboarder, starred in MTV’s “Jackass” television series and went on to film three movies and various specials. Some of his most famous stunts include getting his butt branded, being placed in a cage with a cobra, and treating a golf cart like a monster truck.
The city of Knoxville and Jackass’ official Instagram account posted yesterday that the series will be released in theaters in June, and Variety confirmed it is the new Jackass movie. The film includes new stunts and unreleased archival footage that was scrapped from previous projects.
