Jennifer Garner said the hardest part of her divorce from Ben Affleck was the separation of their family and the loss of their “true partnership.”
The “Last Thing He Told Me” actress, 53, made a rare comment about media coverage surrounding the couple’s 2015 divorce and the difficulty of being in the public eye.
“I don’t listen to gossip about myself or other people, much less my children, because it doesn’t benefit me,” she told Marie Claire in a new interview published Wednesday.
“You have to be smart about what you can and cannot handle. And I couldn’t handle what was there. But what was there wasn’t difficult.”
She continued, “It’s true that it’s been difficult. It’s been difficult to actually have our families break up. It’s been difficult to lose that real partnership and friendship.”
Garner was married to the “Good Will Hunting” star for 10 years before they declared divorce in 2015. The divorce was finalized in October 2018.
The ex-girlfriend has three children: Violet (20), Seraphina (17), and Samuel (13).
Garner then broke up with her boyfriend, John Miller. However, despite their breakup, she still spends a fair amount of family time with Affleck.
Last month, she and Miller were spotted exchanging Christmas presents in a car in Los Angeles just before the big holiday.
But just days earlier, Garner was spotted with Affleck, 53, enjoying a family night at the theater with their middle child.
According to the photo, the trio performed “Stereophonic” at the Hollywood Pantages Theater.
The “13 Going on 30” star remained close friends with his ex-girlfriend even after he divorced Jennifer Lopez, whom he married in 2022, in 2024.
Amid his split from the “Let’s Get Loud” singer, Affleck was spotted spending time with Garner and their children several times, including on Thanksgiving in 2024.
“Ben and Jen have been separated for a while, but he feels a certain sense of security with her,” a source exclusively told Page Six at the time.
“Ben has a strong relationship with Jen that will never go away because they have a lot of history and she is the mother of his children.”
