Pat Finn’s official cause of death has been confirmed. Finn passed away on Monday, Dec. 22, at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 60. He was best known for his long run on The Middle and guest appearances on hit shows like Friends and Seinfeld.

The cause of Pat Finn’s death was revealed more than two weeks after his death at the age of 60.

According to his official death certificate obtained by PEOPLE, The Middle alum’s death was due to a malignant neoplasm of the bladder known as bladder cancer. The documents further indicate that Finn lived with the diagnosis for “years” and that no autopsy was performed.

It was also confirmed that he died at his home in Los Angeles.

Last month, the Friends actor’s rep revealed in a statement to PEOPLE that he passed away on December 22nd.

“We would like to confirm the very sad news that Pat passed away on December 22nd,” the statement read. “He was the kindest, most fun person in any room and was surrounded by an incredibly close and loving family and friends. We will all miss his big smile and even bigger heart.”

His family also released their own statement, remembering Finn’s laughter and love for his favorite sports teams, leaving behind his wife of 35 years, Donna, and three children, Cassidy, Caitlin and Ryan.

“After a beautiful life full of laughter, love, family and friends, we are saddened to share the sad news of Pat Finn’s passing,” the late actor’s family said in a statement. “Pat has bravely battled cancer over the past few years, and I know heaven will be abuzz with the arrival of Pat Finn. In Pat’s final days, he often showed the biggest sign when the Bears scored a touchdown. There’s no pressure. The Bears are just saying, do it for Pat.”

The statement concluded, “His life and legacy will live on through his beautiful family, including his wife Donna and three children, Cassidy, Caitlin, and Ryan, and the thousands of friends and family members he touched.”

Finn was best known for his role as Bill Norwood on the ABC comedy The Middle from 2011 until it ended in 2018. He also starred in hit 90s comedies such as Seinfeld, where he played Joe Mayo, and Friends, where he played Monica’s (Courtney Cox) boyfriend, Dr. Roger.

Among his many other credits, he had a major role on The George Wendt Show in 1995 as Dan Coleman and also appeared on Murphy Brown as Phil Jr. from 1995 to 1997.

Following the news of Finn’s death, Finn’s daughter Cassidy was one of several people to pay tribute to her late father.

“Dad… you were and still are a role model and an inspiration to everyone I meet,” she wrote in a heartwarming Instagram post on Dec. 24. “I tried to think of words to describe you and I couldn’t find the words to describe you. You are Pat Finn,” she wrote on Instagram alongside a series of photos from her childhood.

“The most shocking thing was hearing the nurses say they had never seen so many people come into the hospital for someone, and that was my dad,” she continued. “He changed my life forever. He taught me to be funny, positive, humble, to listen, to always do my best, to love, and to surround myself with the best people. But most importantly, you taught me kindness.”

“I have never met anyone who had a bad word to say about my father,” Cassidy concluded. “I feel like the luckiest person in the world to call you dad. I can’t wait to drink Old Style with you again someday. I love you, dad. I get it. :)”
