Henry Winkler is set to star in the legal comedy “Last Chance Lawyer,” which is in development at NBC.
In the series, Winkler plays Howard Greenberg, a hard-core and unconventional criminal defense attorney who passionately defends his underdog clients. He believes that “no matter what they are accused of, the system is always guilty.” (I hope Howard is more competent than Barry Zuckerkorn, the lawyer played by Winkler in “Arrested Development.”)
“Last Chance Lawyer” is written by Mike Gagerman and Andrew Waller, who also executive produce with Winkler, Jed Mercurio and Jimmy Mulville through Hat Trick Media. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studios Group, is the studio behind this project.
Winkler is best known for embodying the leather-jacketed 1970s and ’80s icon Arthur Fonzarelli, aka The Fonz, on the ABC sitcom “Happy Days.” He recently starred opposite Bill Hader in the HBO dark comedy “Barry,” for which Winkler won his first Primetime Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy. As mentioned above, he also had a bizarre recurring role on “Arrested Development” and memorable roles opposite Adam Sandler in “The Waterboy” and “Click.” He recently co-starred with Bob Odenkirk in the crime thriller Normal, and his other credits include Night Shift, Here Comes the Boom, Heroes, Holes, and Scream. Next, he will appear in the music festival comedy “Rolling Loud.” He is also an accomplished children’s book author in the Hank Zipzer series, having written 40 children’s novels with co-author Lynn Oliver.
Gagerman and Waller are longtime writing partners whose Blacklist feature Search Party was produced by Universal and starred Adam Pally and Alison Brie.
