Gwyneth Paltrow recently told Amy Poehler on the Good Hang podcast that she was “fired” from the film shortly after her divorce from Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin. The Marty Supreme star speculated at the time the breakup was widely publicized that the distributor thought she was “too hot to touch.”
“I was supposed to be in a movie at one point, and it was kind of right after my conscious breakup with Chris, and there was a lot of harsh press coverage,” Paltrow recalled. “I think the distributor said, ‘This might be too hot to touch.'”
She added, “It was great because I ended up getting divorced and then I got fired. So, it was great.”
In 2014, Paltrow announced in a lengthy blog post that she and Martin had decided to “consciously uncouple”. The phrase caught on quickly at the time, sometimes thought by some to be an exaggerated way to describe a traumatic experience. Paltrow said she now understands why she was so obsessed with announcing her divorce.
“Say you had a really bad divorce, or your parents had a really bad divorce,” Paltrow said. “And you’ll hear thoughts like, “We don’t have to do it this way.” I think implicit learning is like, ‘Oh, shit. Like, am I saying I did something wrong?’
She continued, “That makes sense to me and I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s the inference that I’m messing with someone.'” Yeah, that’s not a good thing to think about. So I understand why it was so personal to people. ”
Paltrow appeared on “Good Hang” to promote her new movie, “Marty Supreme.” From A24, Paltrow will star in the sports drama alongside Timothée Chalamet, Odessa Azion, and Kevin O’Leary. The Oscar winner said of the film, “I don’t know if people are going to like it or not, but it’s really swinging and everyone does their jobs wonderfully. And I was like, ‘Wow, this feels nostalgic, you know?'”
