Sarah Jessica Parker hasn’t said she won’t be appearing in Sex and the City, but it doesn’t seem like she’ll be reprising her role as Carrie Bradshaw anytime soon.
SJP told me Tuesday at the Golden Eve Gala in Beverly Hills that she’s open to reprising her beloved fashion-obsessed character, but it all depends on one person, and one person only: “Sex and the City” creator Michael Patrick King.
“I hear a lot of very original ideas, and they’re all nice and well-intentioned and a lot of them are very smart, but all that really matters is what excites Michael Patrick King. And right now, he’s not thinking about that,” Parker said.
Parker made a rare appearance on the West Coast to accept the Carol Burnett Award at a starry Golden Eve dinner and awards ceremony. She appeared on the carpet with her husband Matthew Broderick and actor son James Wilkie Broderick, before reuniting with her “Sex and the City” co-stars Kristen Davis, Evan Handler and David Eigenberg.
Parker also provided an update on the long-awaited third installment of the “Hocus Pocus” series. “They’re working on it,” Parker said. “Where Better (Midler) goes, I go. Bette is like a 13-year-old girl on a new bike. She’s like, ‘I’ve got wheels, let’s travel.'”
And efforts are underway to produce a sequel to “The Family Stone,” in which he co-starred with the late Diane Keaton.
“I’m very excited…but it’s a pretty bittersweet predicament considering we lost Diane Keaton,” Parker said. “But it was a very special group of actors, and we had discussions with them all before Diane passed away, so I hope we can do that. The hardest part is everyone’s schedules.”
Golden Eve also presented Helen Mirren with the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
This evening’s primetime special will be broadcast on Thursday, January 8th at 8pm ET/PT on CBS and streamed on Paramount+ in the US. The 83rd Golden Globe Awards will be broadcast on January 11th at 5pm ET/8pm PT on CBS and streamed on Paramount+ in the US.
