Chris Redd allegedly sold pills to ‘SNL’ cast members

Former “Saturday Night Live” star Chris Redd posted an emotional video on his Instagram Tuesday morning in which he admitted to selling pills to fellow “SNL” cast members while on the show. At the beginning of his six-minute confessional, he said the post was made in order to live with more “vulnerability and openness” in his life and work.

“During my time on the show, I had a pill problem, you know, a pill problem,” Red said. “Not too crazy, but it was crazy for my black ass. And I sold it to my cast mates too. I’m not going to snitch on you motherfuckers.”

Red went on to say that he was deeply hurt by his castmates’ reactions to his struggle with drugs. Red said that instead of trying to help him, they “just badmouthed” him.

“I would listen to them, because some of the Adderall shit gave you super hearing and shit,” he added. “But[they]wouldn’t help me. I would have panic attacks and[they]didn’t care about me and just talked trash. It’s crazy for someone to watch you self-destruct.”

Redd joined SNL as a rising star in 2017 and stayed on for five seasons before leaving in 2022, before the show’s 48th season. During his time on the show, he was known for his impression of then-New York Mayor Eric Adams, appearing in numerous pre-taped sketches. In 2018, he won an Emmy Award for writing “Come Back, Barack,” a song that urged former President Barack Obama to win re-election.

In the years following his departure from “SNL,” Redd appeared on shows such as “Power Book III: Raising Canaan” and “Happy Family USA,” and in films such as “Marv” and “Candy Cane Lane.”
