Simu Liu endorsed Melissa Barrera as the next Wonder Woman in a recent interview with Jobro, calling her dedication to stunt training “Wonder Woman-esque.”
“She really pushes herself,” Liu said of her “Copenhagen Test” co-star. “I don’t know if James Gunn or anyone else is listening to this interview, but I think she really pushes herself. There were some moments in stunt training where I was like, ‘This looks like Wonder Woman.'” Just throwing it out there. ”
In June 2025, DC Studios director James Gunn confirmed that a new Wonder Woman movie is “currently in the works.” The film is an addition to the upcoming HBO series about Wonder Woman’s homeworld of Themyscira, which Gunn described as “slow-moving, but moving.”
Supergirl screenwriter Ana Nogueira has been tapped to write the script for the new Wonder Woman movie in July 2025. She also wrote the live-action Teen Titans for DC.
Gunn told Extra that among the actresses who could be seen playing the DC icon is Hitman’s Adria Arjona.
“I follow Adria on Instagram, and everyone came out (and thought), ‘He just followed her, so she’s Wonder Woman,'” Gunn said. “She would make a great Wonder Woman, by the way.”
Gal Gadot was the first person to bring Wonder Woman to the modern screen. She played the role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman, Justice League, and Wonder Woman 1984. She also made two uncredited appearances as the superheroine in “Shazam! Wrath of the Gods” and “The Flash.”
