Jennifer Lopez reveals her next boyfriend needs to accept and respect who she is.
The superstar performed her 1999 hit “If You Had My Love” at her show in Las Vegas on Saturday night, and reflected on the song’s lyrics more than 20 years later and after a series of failed high-profile romances, including her divorce from Ben Affleck.
“The first time I sang, I was very young,” she told the audience in a video shared on social media from the show. “And I sang it with a lot of hope.”
“But I’ve also sung this song over the years. I’ve sung it when I’ve been sad,” she continued. “And I used to sing this song when I was happy. But today, you know how I sing? I sing with power.”
“Because the truth is, if you want my love, you have to earn it,” she said as fans cheered. “You have to treat me right. You have to respect me.”
“I’m sure they’ll accept me for who I am,” she continued. “If you want my love, you have to love me.”
Lopez, 56, went on to say she knew love was “complicated.”
“There can be no love without heartbreak,” she said. “You can’t do that. That’s what you sign up for.”
Lopez hasn’t been shy about teasing her divorce from Affleck, 53, hinting at it on the opening night of his new Las Vegas residency.
Referring to her previous “Jennifer Lopez: All I Have” residency, Lopez asked her fans, “For those of you who were there on opening night 10 years ago, it must have flown by, right?”
“And, you know, I had only been married twice at the time,” she joked.
Lopez corrected him, and the audience laughed.
“That’s not true. It only happened once. It felt like it happened twice. Just kidding,” she said jokingly.
“It’s over and we’re just going to boom, that’s okay. All good,” the pop star continued. “The good news is that I’m learning and growing. We’re in happy times right now.”
Lopez has been married four times.
The “Hustlers” actress was married to Cuban waiter Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998. Dancer Chris Judd from 2001 to 2003. to singer Marc Anthony from 2004 to 2014; And from 2022 to 2025, it will be Ben Affleck.
