Vecna has attacked again!
Netflix crashed for some users Wednesday night as the series finale of “Stranger Things” premiered. The streamer also encountered technical issues a few weeks ago on the Nov. 26 Season 5 premiere.
The streamer crashed at exactly 5pm PT, coinciding with the drop time for the “Stranger Things 5” finale. The crash lasted for about a minute and was fixed after a few updates. As before, users who encountered the error were shown a “Nailed It!” image. It has a caption that says, “Something went wrong. We’re sorry, but there’s a problem with your request. There’s a lot to explore on the home page.”
The November 26 crash took Netflix down for about five minutes when the first four episodes of season 5 were released at 5pm PT. Stranger Things Season 4 also encountered some technical issues when the final episode was not aired in July 2022. In addition to The Upside Down, Netflix experienced livestream issues when the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul boxing match was aired live last year.
Netflix weathered the second batch of Stranger Things Season 5 episodes released on Christmas Day without any technical issues. These episodes gave Netflix its highest viewership ever on Christmas Day. Season 5 became the most-watched title worldwide thanks to three new episodes. The fifth and final season was watched 34.5 million times between December 22nd and December 28th. This was the season’s second-best weekly total after November’s 59.6 million views, which was the highest opening week ever for an English-language title on Netflix.
The long-awaited series finale will also premiere in select theaters on New Year’s Eve. Co-creator Ross Duffer said 1.1 million people have signed up to see the film in theaters. He added that 3,500 screenings were sold out in 620 theaters.
“What a way to end a 10 year journey together,” he wrote on Instagram with his brother and co-creator Matt Duffer. “Maybe I can meet some people in LA.”
