Cher is once again making us believe in the power of “Saturday Night Live.”
The 79-year-old iconic singer returned to Studio 8H as a musical guest after a nearly 40-year hiatus, performing “DJ Play a Christmas Song” and “Run Rudolph Run” from his 2023 album Christmas, wearing a leather jacket and Chrome Hearts x Deadly Dolls sweatpants ($6,400).
She supported Ariana Grande, who hosted the night, and the two shared the stage with Bowen Yang in a hilarious “Delta Lounge” skit.
For the special occasion and holiday-themed episode, the music legend surprised and delighted fans in the audience and at home by changing into a sparkling silver corset top, black shrug, and black pants as she sang a portion of the Eagles’ “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.”
Other than a brief cameo on Weekend Update in 1992 and a special 50th anniversary concert last year, Cher last appeared on a sketch comedy show in November 1987.
Despite decades in showbiz, Cher’s unique sense of fashion has remained a key element of her persona since she burst onto the scene in 1965 with her hit single “I Got You Babe.”
Cher’s penchant for donning sexy gowns in the ’70s, flashy bodysuits in the ’80s, and flashy showgirl-style headdresses in the ’90s is well-known, but today’s pop stars are proving that Cher’s diva-worthy Bob Mackie-designed collections are still popular.
Just this fall, singer Sabrina Carpenter pulled not one, but two vintage Bob Mackie dresses from her archives for two major music events: the 2025 VMAs and her debut at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Cher originally wore this pink, black, and blue fringed dress in 1975 when she co-starred with Tina Turner on the TV show Cher.
I mean, Cher still knows, baby.
