‘Below Deck Down Under’ star Captain Jason Chambers is setting the record straight about Heather Gaye’s hookup claims.
On Monday’s episode of “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” Chambers initially played low-key but ultimately denied the “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” star’s story.
When host Cohen asked his guest how he felt hearing Gaye say he “hit my knee,” the 52-year-old Australian native uncomfortably repeated, “I hit my knee.”
He continued, “Well, you know, we were playing in Sydney for Bravo. You’ve been to Sydney for Mardi Gras before. Whatever happens in Sydney, you stay in Sydney, right?”
Fellow guest Daisy Kelliher, who will appear on next season’s Below Deck Down Under, took that to mean confirmation of a secret meeting, but Chambers quickly clarified, “No, that’s not true. It’s not true.”
“But what a friendship!” he was sure to add. “They’re beautiful people. They’re so funny and we had so much fun spending time with them, and we’re glad that we’ve developed such a friendship that they want to come on the boat for a charter.”
Gaye, 51, made the claim on a recent episode of RHOSLC in which he was seen planning a yacht trip to Canouan Island in the Grenadines with his co-stars to film with the cast of Below Deck Down Under.
At one point, “RHOSLC” cast member Brittani Bateman, who had expressed interest in Chambers earlier in the episode, called out Gay for “canoodling.”
“Jason and I are friends. We have a history,” Gay explained in an alcohol-fueled conversation. “I’ve walked all over the place before. It’s like there’s nothing there.”
Shocked, Bateman asked Gay what exactly he meant by “joking around,” to which Gay replied, “We’re friends. We say we’re friends, so we’re free.”
Gay seemed to regret spilling the tea. In a subsequent confessional, she claimed she had no recollection of the conversation and begged producers to cut it from the episode.
“Did I say that? Serious face? You can’t use that,” she begged. “I don’t know why I said that to her. Please delete it. Please delete it.”
