Malcolm D. Lee will serve as director and executive producer on two projects for NBC and Peacock under his Blackmardo Productions banner, Variety reports. Universal Television, where Lee and Blackmared have a first-look deal, will produce both shows.
The NBC project is titled “Need to Know,” and Taye Diggs (“All American,” “The Best Man”) will star and executive produce. The project’s logline reads, “Inspired by true events, this is a spy procedural about a battle-scarred CIA veteran who must team up with a brash young officer as he carries out the CIA’s most daring operation from a secret base in South Florida.”
Alexander Maggio (“FBI,” “Madame Secretary”) wrote the script for the pilot and will serve as executive producer. If the project is turned into a series, Terrence Paul Winter (Boston Blue, The Equalizer) will serve as writer and executive producer. Spycraft Entertainment’s Dominic Telson, Jerry O’Shea and John Cypher also serve as executive producers, with Michael Scott Allen and Rachel Harner serving as co-executive producers.
Peacock’s project is titled “Becoming Marlow Fin” and is based on Ellen Wong Still’s book of the same name. The logline reads, “Through an intensive prime-time interview, the mysterious life of global superstar Marlowe Finn is revealed, as she recounts the events leading up to her sister’s disappearance and publicly maintains her innocence as the prime suspect in an apparent murder.”
Des Moran (Netflix’s “A Different World” sequel, “Tiny Beautiful Things”) will serve as writer and executive producer. Wong also served as executive producer along with Dominque Telson and Michael Scott Allen.
