‘The Celebrity Traitors’ has been renewed for a second season on BBC One and iPlayer.
The network confirmed Monday that the show, which aired its season 1 finale last week to 11 million viewers, will return next year with new stars. A companion show, The Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked, will also return on BBC Sounds, BBC Two and iPlayer. “The Celebrity Traitors” is produced by Scotland’s Studio Lambert and hosted by Claudia Winkleman.
“The Celebrity Traitors” has been a phenomenon since its inception, with the first episode being watched 14.8 million times in 28 days, making it the biggest single episode of television so far this year. The show is also the biggest unscripted title across the UK market since 2021.
The news was announced in a new economic impact report, which revealed that the UK-US Traitors series has boosted Scotland’s economy by £21.8 million ($28.7 million) from 2022 onwards.
“Studio Lambert has done a fantastic job as Celebrity Traitors truly captivated the nation and became a genuine highlight of the year, with record numbers of people coming together to enjoy all the twists and turns,” Kalpuna Patelnight, head of entertainment at the BBC, said in a statement. “In 2026, the castle doors will open once again, welcoming celebrity players into the game and seeing who can charm, who can plot and who can ultimately survive. Series 2 will be just as unmissable as the first. Plus, with the return of Uncloaked and the news of the positive contribution that The Traitors brand has made to the Scottish economy today, there is much to celebrate.”
In Variety’s review of Season 1 of Celebrity Traitors, Scott Bryan called it the best reality show of the year. “Rarely is the most popular show on television the best one,” he wrote, “and rarer still is it to be such a public spectacle that the last showing fills bars and clubs across the country. And even rarer is it to have comedian Alan Carr create enough knife-sharp tension during that showing.” “But The Celebrity Traitors UK has done just that. The BBC’s celebrity version of the game, the first season of the elaborate and unpredictable international franchise whodunnit, has not only lived up to expectations, but exceeded them.”
