Meghan Markle will return to the big screen with a small cameo in the movie Close Personal Friends, Variety has confirmed. The comedy film, starring Lily Collins, Jack Quaid, Brie Larson and Henry Golding, is currently filming in the Los Angeles area.
The comedy also stars “SNL” alum Melissa Villaseñor, as well as Natasia Demetriou, Anna Konkle, Patti Harrison, Jacques Charroux and Dustin Demry-Burns.
The story will reportedly revolve around an “ordinary” couple who meet a celebrity couple during a trip to Santa Barbara. When two couples become friends, lines are crossed and things get awkward.
Jason Orley is directing from a script written by Isaac Aptaker and a story they collaborated on. Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger will produce. Ollie, Aptaker and Berger previously co-starred in the Amazon MGM romantic comedy “I Want You Back.”
Markle appeared on “Suits” for seven seasons and appeared in films including “Horror Bosses” and “Remember Me” before marrying Prince Harry in 2018. She hasn’t acted in more than seven years, but she and Prince Harry’s Archewell Productions re-signed a first-look deal with Netflix in August. Through this partnership, Markle executive produced docu-series such as “Polo” and “Live to Read,” as well as her own lifestyle series, “With Love, Meghan,” which wrapped its second season in the summer.
“It’s a new chapter, right?” Markle, 36, told Page Six when she left her job on USA Network’s “Suits” to focus on the Duchess of Sussex. “I ticked that box. I’m very proud of the work we did there. Now it’s time to work together as a team (with Harry).”
In 2020, the couple announced they would step back from royal duties and split their time between Santa Barbara and the United Kingdom.
Amazon MGM has not commented.
