Disney+ has entered into a groundbreaking multi-year content partnership with CJ ENM to bring premium content from Korean streaming service Tving to Japan for the first time.

The deal positions Disney+ as Tving’s primary SVOD partner in the important Japanese market, with up to 60 of the Korean streamer’s best-performing originals and CJ ENM drama series scheduled to launch on the platform. Content will begin rolling out on November 5th and will feature fan-favorite titles such as “Guardian: The Lonely Great God” and “Reply 1988.”

To showcase its expanded Korean content library, Disney+ Japan will introduce “Tving Highlights” as a dedicated feature on its homepage, alongside the streamer’s franchise tent poles and original programming. Subscribers will also gain access to the Tving Collection, a curated hub of diverse titles from TVING’s emotionally-charged, genre-defining series.

“As we celebrate the fifth anniversary of Disney+ in Japan, we remain committed to expanding our content offerings to reflect the diverse tastes of our viewers. This collaboration with CJ ENM and Tving is an important step forward in that journey,” said Tamotsu Hichiro, Managing Director, Walt Disney Company Japan, Inc.

Tving CEO Julie Choi called the partnership a strategic move to expand the service’s global reach. “Partnering with Disney, which has a strong presence and deep history in Japan, is an opportunity to most effectively introduce Tving content to local audiences,” Choi said. “Through our partnership with Disney, we aim to move beyond being Korea’s No. 1 OTT (streamer) and grow into a truly global K-OTT platform.”

Tony Zamekowski, Executive Vice President and General, DTC, Asia Pacific, The Walt Disney Company, called the partnership “a pivotal moment in our regional content and partnership strategy.”

“As Korean storytelling continues to captivate audiences around the world, we are proud to bring CJ ENM and Tving’s most captivating series to Disney+ viewers in Japan,” said Zamekowski. “This partnership not only strengthens our Korean content offering, but also marks the beginning of a wide range of opportunities to deepen our connection with viewers in one of the world’s most dynamic streaming markets.”

The deal builds on Disney+’s existing Korean content, including originals “The Moving,” “The Worst Evil” and “The Tempest,” as well as Japanese originals such as “Gannibal” and “Disney’s Twisted Wonderland: The Animation.”
