The Scrubs revival has lost one of its two showrunners within weeks of production, Variety has confirmed. Tim Hobart has stepped down as series co-director due to creative differences, and Aseem Batra will serve as sole showrunner as filming continues.
Hobart and Batra are co-writing the first episode of the Scrubs revival, which will see original cast members Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes and John C. McGinley reprise their roles from the original series.
Hobart and Butler are both “Scrubs” alums. Hobart was credited as co-executive producer, executive producer, and consulting producer on the original series, while Batra served as story editor, executive story editor, and co-producer. Both are working with original series showrunner Bill Lawrence, who continues to executive produce the revival series through his Doozer banner. Braff, Faison, Chalke and Randall Winston also serve as executive producers.
Hobart will continue to be credited as an executive producer for the first few episodes of the revival series. Production began in Vancouver in early October.
In addition to the original stars, the cast also includes series newcomers Eva Bang, Jacob Dudman, David Gridley, Leila Mohammadi, and Amanda Morrow.
The “Scrubs” revival received a series order from ABC in July. This series comes from 20th Century Television. The original “Scrubs” began on NBC and aired its first seven seasons from 2001 to 2008, followed by two seasons on ABC in 2009 and 2010.
Deadline first reported Hobart’s departure from the “Scrubs” revival.
