Paul Walter Hauser will soon play Chris Farley in Josh Gad’s biopic of the legendary “Saturday Night Live” cast member, and the “Naked Gun” star is calling out who he’d like to see play Lorne Michaels.
Houser said in an interview with Variety magazine Wednesday night at the Los Angeles premiere of “Springsteen: Save Me From Anywhere” that he would like Sam Rockwell to play the mastermind of “SNL.”
“We have some ideas about who we might cast as Lorne,” Hauser said. “I really want Sam Rockwell to play Lorne Michaels, but I don’t think I’ve told anyone that yet.”
Mr. Hauser then expressed his opinion directly to Mr. Rockwell.
“Sam Rockwell, please play Lorne Michaels in my Chris Farley movie,” he added. “Anyway, you love being around me when I do a Furry impression, so I’ll do Matt Foley all day for you and make you laugh. It’ll be fun.”
If Hauser’s wish comes true, it will be his second collaboration with Rockwell, the first being Clint Eastwood’s 2019 drama “Richard Jewell.”
At the beginning of the interview, Hauser revealed that he had recently received the “latest draft” of the script from 500 Days of Summer screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, calling it “the best yet.” He added that filming could begin as early as “early to mid-next year” and that production is awaiting the “elusive green light” from New Line and Warner Bros.
The Farley biopic was first released in April 2024. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film is based on the New York Times bestselling biography “The Chris Farley Show: A Biography in Three Acts” by Tom Farley Jr. (Farley’s brother) and Tanner Colby.
